Major Postharvest Fungal Diseases of Papaya cv. ‘Sekaki’ in Selangor, Malaysia
نویسنده
چکیده
A total of seven fungi were identified from the surface of fully matured papaya fruits cv. ‘Sekaki’ collected form two different fields namely University Agriculture Park, UPM and MARDI, Selangor and a fruit exporter [Seng Chew Hup Kee (M) Sdn Bhd, Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia]. They were identified as Botryodiplodia theobromae, Colletotrichum capsici, C. gloeosporioides, Fusarium sp., Phomopsis sp., Rhizopus stolonifer and Stemphylium sp.. Among the diseases, the highest incidence ranged from 90 to 98% and severity of 25 to 38% were recorded for anthracnose caused by C. gloeosporioides for all three sources, followed by stem-end-rot caused by Botryodiplodia theobromae. Pathogenicity test showed that both wounded and unwounded fruits inoculated with conidial suspension of C. gloeosporioides developed distinct symptoms of anthracnose after three and five days of inoculation, respectively.

A recently published article describing the draft genome of Erwiniamallotivora BT-Mardi (1), the causal pathogen of papaya dieback infection in Peninsular Malaysia, hassignificant potential to overcome and reduce the effect of this vulnerable crop (2). The authors found that the draft genome sequenceis approximately 4824 kbp and the G+C content of the genomewas 52-54%, which is very similarto t...

Effect of different fruit position on postharvest quality of F1 hybrid redfleshed watermelon Hi-U 16 was examined. In this study only one main vine was trained and maintained. The plants were allowed to set three fruits naturally at the first (8th - 11th nodes), second (13th - 16th nodes) and third (18th - 21th nodes) position. Fruits were harvested at 35 days after anthesis. Fruit weight, diam...

A study was carried out to determine the physicochemical characteristics of the oil derived from papaya seeds of the Hong Kong/Sekaki variety. Proximate analysis showed that seeds of the Hong Kong/Sekaki variety contained considerable amount of oil (27.0%). The iodine value, saponification value, unsaponifiable matter and free fatty acid contents of freshly extracted papaya seed oil were 76.9 g...
متن کاملEffect of the Combination Hot Water - Calcium Chloride on the In Vitro Growth of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and the Postharvest Quality of Infected Papaya
Anthracnose of papaya fruit caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is one of the most economically important postharvest diseases. Hot water immersion (HW) and calcium chloride (Ca) treatments have been used to control papaya postharvest diseases; however, the effect of the combination HW-Ca on the pathogen growth and the development of the disease in infected papaya fruit has been...
متن کاملIdentification, Expression and IAA-Amide Synthetase Activity Analysis of Gretchen Hagen 3 in Papaya Fruit (Carica papaya L.) during Postharvest Process
Auxin plays essential roles in plant development. Gretchen Hagen 3 (GH3) genes belong to a major auxin response gene family and GH3 proteins conjugate a range of acylsubstrates to alter the levels of hormones. Currently, the role of GH3 genes in postharvest physiological regulation of ripening and softening processes in papaya fruit is unclear. In this study, we identified seven CpGH3 genes in ...
